An example would be: Llllllets gggo homeNot only is stuttering involuntary sound repetition it also contains the unnormal hesitation or pausing before speech. This pause or hesitation is commonly called a block. Alot of the variables that make up true stuttering cannot be heard or seen by a listener. The things that cannot be observed include:

word and sound and situational fears

Often times the most difficult aspect of the stutter or stammering disorder is the emotional state of the individual. The dissorder affects about 1.5% of the worlds adult population, and approximately 5% of children. A greater rate of stuttering has been observed in Africanand West Indies adults. These rates can be as high as 10%. Men around the globe make up about eighty percent of all stutterers. Part of this huge difference between male and females is attributed to the fact that women are so much more likely to outgrow or recover from the disorder.

Presently there is no known cause for the disorder. There are several theories for the disorder; they can be divided into 3 categories. There is no known cause for stuttering. Theories about the causes of stuttering can be ided into three categories: The Monster study, Genetics, and Childhood development.

Quick tips for a great Teddy Bear Party

Quick tips for a great Teddy Bear Party

A great teddy bear party is not a difficult thing to pull of with a little creativity and some things that you can find round your house! Here are some quick ideas for making the party fun!

Buy some inexpensive rubber stamps with bear images and let your little one make homemade invitations. Or cut a piece of cardstock into the shape of a bear and write your invitation on that. Free clipart can be found for this purpose in many places on the Internet. Make sure you include the request for all the guests to bring their own bear to the party too!

When kids think of bears they usually think of honey and bees, so a big hit for decorations is LOTS of yellow and black balloons and streamers. If possible have various teddy bears all around the room as well to tie in the theme.

When you hosting a bear event even your menu should be centered on teddy. Here a cute way to turn Peanut Butter and Jelly sandwiches into a beary fun treat!

Spread your peanut butter and jelly onto eight wholewheat hamburger buns. Now here where the fun begins. Cut four of the eight buns in half. On a large tray or covered cookie sheet, arrange the buns into a shape of a teddy bear. For the tummy, put one whole bun and surround that with 4 half buns. Another whole bun becomes the head/face, with two half buns on the topsides of the head for the ears. Two whole buns become the legs and the final two half buns turn out off of the body to make arms. Garnish the face/head bun with raisin eyes and a strawberry slice mouth and you got a bear! Use a separate tray for additional sandwiches and watch for all the smiles! Mix some honey and yogurt together for a great dip for cut fruit and your menu is complete!

Nautical Flagpoles

Nautical Flagpoles

Nautical flagpoles, as the name implies, are flagpoles dealing with ships and ocean navigation. However, a nautical flagpole doesnt have to be on a ship. You will also find them in marinas, yacht clubs and at places like shipping museums. Nautical flagpoles can be identified by the yardarm that sticks out on either side of pole causing it to resemble a cross.

When perusing your nautical flagpole choices, you will come across the single pole and the double pole. The single pole simply has a yardarm. The double pole, however, has a yardarm and a gaff. A gaff is another, smaller pole that tends to extend forward and at a slightly upward angle from where the yardarm and the main pole meet. This can be used to hang smaller flags if you wish.

You will find that many of todays nautical flagpoles are made of aluminum but have a coating that makes them look white. For a look thats a throwback to the older ships with many masts, you might want to opt for wooden poles. In fact, some of the most ornate flagpoles were wooden and made for long voyages across the ocean. Wood, however, requires quite a bit of maintenance and upkeep.

Buying a Nautical Flagpole

Before you purchase your flagpole, you will need to determine where it will go. If it will be near the seaside, it will most likely be subject to a lot of wind. Make sure you buy a pole that can bear high winds. You will also want something thats easy to keep clean as the salt water can do damage to some materials.

How To Kill Spiders

How To Kill Spiders

Spiders are complicated creatures. In most cases they are benevolent little creatures that protect you from harm, harm that is brought about by diseasecarrying flies. They also protect you from other creatures that are considered pests. They could be pests in your garden, but if the spider is big enough it can be an effective deterrent to very bothersome mice.

On the other hand, there are many species of spiders that are harmful to humans. Some of these produce venom that can harm your family. If you have small pets, the effects of a spider bite may kill them. The same goes for little children. Species like the Black widow has even been known to kill fullsize adult human beings. For that reason, spider control is important.

Dont panic. When you see a spider in your house and are thinking about how to kill it, remain calm. Running around screaming is not the best course of action. Take a deep breath. Bottle up some courage and proceed to step two.

Observe the spider. Look at the spider. You should already know where it is. Get close enough to get a good look without being too close to it that it might be able to reach you and bite you.

Look for signs. Most spiders are relatively harmless to human beings. There are only a few spiders that are venomous. Look to see if there are distinctive marks. Some of the friendly spiders that might fend off a more dangerous member of the species include the Giant House Spider, roughly 3 inches in length or more; the Wolf Spider, a stronglybuilt brown camouflaged spider that preys on flies, and Daddy Long Legs, a spider with really thin long legs that are known to consume dangerous spiders.

Determine if it is poisonous. Look at the spider and determine if it fits the traits of a deadly variety. The Black Widow is a deadly spider and it can be identified by a red mark on its end. It is predominantly black with thin legs and is roughly around three quarters of an inch to an inch and a half long. Another spider to watch out for is the Brown Recluse. It is about the size of a penny and their body color ranges from light brown to coffee. The Brown Recluse can be determined by the stretched violin like marking on its back.

Immobilizing the spider. Get a large seltzer bottle or any water container that can release high pressure liquid. This will hold the spider long enough for you to kill its. Also get a long flat surface that you will use to poke at the spider and whack it. If the spider is on the wall or on the ceiling, do not stand directly underneath it. Use your long object to poke at the spider until it falls on the floor and spray it with the seltzer bottle. This should immobilize the spider long enough for the next step.

Whack it. With the spider immobilized by the water, keep your eye on the spider as you whack it with your long flat item. Make sure the spider is totally squished. Spiders are known to be sturdier than many insects.

Sweep up. Clean up after you have successfully exterminated the creature.

Spider pest control doesnt mean killing every spider you see. When you want to get rid of spiders, you may want to check with an organic exterminator to find out natural ways for how to get rid of them without actually killing them. This, of course, applies to harmless spiders and not poisonous ones. House spiders are rather cool creatures that in most cases do more good than bad. So if you think the spider is not poisonous, you might as well leave it alone. It might even end up protecting you against more venomous spiders.

Oriental Rugs

Oriental Rugs

The mystique of Oriental rugs is perhaps best told in the story of the Pazyryk saddle cover. Discovered frozen in a burial chamber by a Russian archaeologist in 1949 in the Altai Mountains in Siberia, this earliest known surviving handknotted carpet dates to about 500 BC. It is square, exquisite, and remarkably well preserved. A center tile motif is edged by two rows of elk and horsemen, which are encircled by a border of small woven tiles.

Most telling about Oriental rugs is how well they integrate with so many interior design styles. Whether in a retrostyle loft in Baltimore, a Rococo condominium in Manhattan, or a turnofthecentury Victorian farmhouse in Ohio, they transform interior spaces into extraordinary ones. No minor consideration is that the finest of themwhether antique value, weaving detail, or motif designare area rugs rather than carpets. Because the sophisticated Pazyryk predates the writings, however, we are left with a certain amount of guesswork. It is clear enough, however, that they arose with the nomadic tribes of Central Asia. Certainly that is where the craft endured. One is the fundamental groupings of floral/curvilinear versus geometric/rectilinear patterns. Another common classification is by geographic area, from Turkey to Iran Persian to Central Asia to China to India. Another grouping is by type, that is, carpet, rug, runner, prayer rug, juval, and donkey bag.

Persian and Indian rug patterns are primarily floral. Central Asian and Turkish rugs, however, are more generally geometric. Birds, dragons, and other animals characterize Chinese rugs. Caucasian and Turkman rugs almost always use geometric designs.

Carpets are the largest of Oriental rugs, generally larger than 9x12 feet. Rugs, the most common, are woven in any number of dimensions, but are smaller than carpets. Runners, being designed expressly for stairways and hallways, are generally from three to four feet or narrower, and are up to 20 feet long. Prayer rugs, typically small in area, are perhaps the most popular type. Juvals are rectangular bags, made in pairs. Donkey bags, extremely popular with collectors, are just what the name conveysrectangular utilitarian bags designed to carry goods.

FAQs about Oriental Rugs

True hand knotted Oriental rugs will last a very long time indeedas the Pazyryk saddle cover attestsif proper care is taken of them. The most common problems are water and moth damage. Although the pile of Orientals is generally wool, the warp and weftthat is, the foundation of the rug, the string network into which the wood or silk are wovenare cotton.

This can be weakened by exposure to water and dampness. As far as moths are concerned, it is not the moth but the moth larvae that eat the wool and silk fibers. Uneven wear is best dealt with by rotating the rug once a year.

Olympus C

Olympus C5000

The Olympus C5000 is one of my favorite digital cameras. It has that sleek, classy metal look that I prefer to more traditional, bulky, black and boring digital cameras. What can I say, Im a sucker for chrome. Its just so stylish, its hard to compete with, and if youre going to spend all that money on a digital camera, you might as well get one that looks good.

A step up from Olympuss C4000 digital, the C5000 is, naturally, a five megapixel camera. Combine that with the standard three times optical zoom and youve got yourself a camera that takes really great photos. Even a novice will be able to take pictures like a pro.

Its great for the photographer on the go as well. It is a very small and lightweight camera. It can fit right in your pocket or in a small bag or purse. If your kids are off to travel Europe after graduation, send them with a C5000 to help them cherish those memories for a lifetime. This is a great camera for travelers, so you know they wont be disappointed.

Inexperienced photographers will benefit from the cameras automated features. The auto program mode allows users to take pictures with total ease. Simply point the camera at your target and click the button. The camera will focus for you. Photographers with more experience can have more control over their pictures by using the cameras manual settings, making this a great camera for users of all skill levels.

Identifying The Adverse Environmental Impact Of Refrigerant Properties

Identifying The Adverse Environmental Impact Of Refrigerant Properties

There are over 100 types of refrigerants, aside from water, which are used in many applications and processes in various types of industries. Refrigerant properties are primarily very useful in the cooling and refrigeration processes. However, refrigerant properties like HCFCs and CFCs can severely damage the environment as it depletes the ozone layer.

In designing any air conditioning, cooling or refrigeration system, four refrigerant properties are usually considered. Cost effectiveness and operational efficiency are high on the list, along with low toxicity and flammability. There are industry standards and tests to document efficiency and safety levels for these factors.

Refrigerant properties are of particular concern to environmental government agencies worldwide because some of the chemical substances used in certain types of refrigerants lead to ozone depletion or have a high global warming potential. Major global treaties which imply regulation refrigerant emissions from systems include the Montreal Protocol and the Clean Air Act.

Some of the refrigerant properties which cause harmful effects to the environment include chlorofluorocarbons and hydrochlorofluorocarbons. The gases remain in the atmosphere for hundreds of years, thus depleting the ozone layer that protects the earth from the suns harmful rays. If no serious action will be taken, climate change results from increased global warming due to greenhouse gases.

There are various classes of refrigerant properties. Refrigerants with toxicity levels below 400ppm are Class B, while those without toxicity levels below or equal to 400ppm in volume are Class A. In addition, numerical designations, ranging from Class 1 to Class 3, indicate flame propagation, with Class 3 being refrigerants that are highly flammable.

Among the refrigerant properties being considered to replace chemicals that are harmful to the environment include ammonia, carbon dioxide, propane and HFC32. However, these alternatives bring additional concerns. Ammonia is considered the preferred refrigerant because there are no global warming concerns. Since it is toxic and combustible, its use is best for certain controlled applications, such as commercial or large facility use.

While carbon dioxide has no safety concerns, the need to use more electricity would negate any global warming reduction. Propane, under consideration as an alternative in refrigerators, is risky because it is very combustible. HFC32 is a hydrochlorofluorocarbon that is efficient and has no global warming impact. However, it could be combustible under certain conditions, so additional safety measures are needed.

Tracking and reporting of refrigerant properties are required under global government treaties to gain a better understanding of how extensive the use of harmful refrigerants are and to measure the amount of dangerous substances released into the air during a refrigerant leak. This will enable scientists to better formulate the extent and impact of global warming and ozone depletion in coming years and devise additional prevention methods.

How Vehicle Tracking Devices Work

How Vehicle Tracking Devices Work

People spend their hard earned money and endure the stress of the daily grind to buy one of the worlds greatest assets: a Lamborghini or the latest SUV. Yes, everyone aspires to owning the coolest, most expensive vehicle that will turn heads whenever it passes by on the streets of New York. Though owning cars seems to fulfill ones whim, there are many consequences and problems associated with it. Many vehicle owners are worried about the occurrence of car theft and are preoccupied with the costs involved in recovering the stolen car.

The birth of modern vehicle tracking devices has proven more effective in reducing the prevalence of car theft and other related crimes. A car tracking device is installed in a vehicle and uses GPS technology that is programmed to trace the vehicles exact location. It sends automatic phone or email alerts to the owner. With the use of GPS technology, Internet, and mobile networks, it will be easier for you to report a stolen car to the police or track your delinquent teens.

The GPS or Global Positioning System does wonders in vehicle tracking solutions. A GPS vehicle tracker is composed of 24 satellites that orbit the earth. The satellites allow the GPS receivers to capture the signals from three or more satellites, known as the trilateration. The GPS receivers calculate the distance of each satellite and send the data to the Internet and mobile phones. By logging online, the GPS system feeds you information about the vehicles speed, direction, and fuel consumption. For example, if the car is heading from North to South Africa, you will receive an email or text message showing the cars route from north to south.

There are two types of GPS tracking device: passive and active. A passive device requires you to download the data stored by the GPS satellites; meanwhile, the active device transfers the GPS data through mobile and Internet networks. However, most advanced vehicle tracking devices today are using both passive and active uniformly to broaden the data transfer and GPS connection.

Primarily, a vehicle tracking device is crucial to business functions, especially for car dealers or car rental companies. Via GPS tracking device, car rental agencies keep an eye to clients who will violate the companys rule. Companies engaged in multimillion dollar investments like insurance and field sales have converted to GPS technology. Asset GPS tracking allows these businesses to closely monitor the operations while the workers are working remotely from the company. GPS gives accurate maps to where the field workers and couriers are located.

Moreover, the GPS technology is used for personal purpose. For parents who wish to know the whereabouts of their teenagers, the child tracking device should be installed in the car, and parents will receive maps confirming their children skipped school. Or, if you feel that your husband is having an affair with another woman, you can mount a tracking device without his knowledge. Whats good about the vehicle tracking device is that it is cheap and that you can install it anytime inside your car. The tracking device secures your vehicle from thieves who might be lurking inside the car park or the neighborhood.

Each city has its main street but Madrid is not like any o0ther city hence even in such theme it tries to stay different. As you understood there is no main street but many locals say that the gtreat way which is Gran Via is the most centralized in the Spanish capital.

First draft of the street connecting the two fashionable metropolitan area Arguelos and Salamanca, was developed around 1862. This project could not be realized. Only after 40 years was it was finally approved by the project construction, which, incidentally, has caused an outcry of residents and owners, who according to the plan were to be demolished. The right to build a new street for 29 million pesetas was given to French banker Albert Martin Silver. However, in 1923 the banker lost his right to build the industrialist of the Basque Country Horacio Echeveriette Maruri.

During the construction of streets, reaches a width of 35 and a length of 1,315 meters, more than 300 buildings were demolished. For example, the construction of a new street took the level of 34 meters Prisesa nearby street. For this reason, several houses had to continue down the whole floor. The builders had to perform extremely costly for the reconstruction of the ground floors and basements. Front doors of some houses have turned into a balcony. To expand the roadway old trees were transplanted closer to home.

The current main street in Madrid Gran Via is clearly divided into three sections. The first portion extending to the square Red de San Luis, in the style of classical architecture, many of the houses here have a clear imprint neovozrozhdeniya style it spacious balconies, numerous columns and large eaves. The second section of the street is going to Plaza Callao. In architecture, there is confusion of American modernism with a French architectural style. The third section between the areas of Callao and Spain, is made entirely in the rational American spirit.

On the Gran Via there are many houses that are known not only in Spain but throughout the world. For example, room located on the corner of Victor Hugo, was the progenitor of illuminated advertising Madrid.

Improve Your Time Management Techniques Watch Your Stress Disappear

Stress and bad time management are closely related. After all, at the root of a lot of stress is really one major thing: Not enough. Not enough money, not enough time, not enough confidence, not enough you name it.

And while we often stress about money, money is something we could earn more of. Shortfalls are not necessarily a permanent condition unless we make them so. However, when it comes to time, everyone gets the same amount. 24 hours. Every day. Not a minute more. Or less.

Talk about egalitarian. However, some of us seem to be a lot better than others at making the most of their allotment. Some people get a lot done. Others procrastinate and fritter away what time they have, all the while complaining about not having enough time in the process.

In fact, when people give presentations, I am always a bit amused and annoyed when the speaker spends a good chunk of whatever time they do have complaining that there isn enough. How silly is that!

Clearly, though, with time being what it is, there great room for improvement for most of us in how we handle it. We can learn to fit more of the things we want to do into it. We can learn to get the stuff that we have to get done accomplished in less time so we have more time for ourselves. Once we achieve that goal, our stress will go way down.

How to get there, though? There are plenty of time management courses and books available. Unfortunately, they often fall short of their promises. And if anything, that can make us feel even more stressed and possibly like a failure. Time and how we handle it is a very individual thing. Whatever the suggestions in the books may be, they have to work with who we are as people. But how would you know which approach is right?

Two ways: recommendations by people who know you really well can yield good results. The trial and error method also works well. Check some systems out and see what you think. You bound to learn SOMETHING even if it not really right for you. And don beat yourself up if you find some that don work for you. Just go on to the next one.

If you do find one that really works for you though, one that allows you to exponentially increase your productivity, you know you got a winner. So it worth investigating the options. Because we all have the exact same amount of time available. It what we make of it that makes the difference in how much we can get done, and in our peace of mind. And that how the right approach to time management can lower your stress.

But where to start looking for the perfect approach to time management? Here a good one and it might well be the only one you ever need because it so powerful: The ultimate multimedia time management course with workbook for internet marketers and other stressed out professionals: Time Management Course. It has made a huge difference in my own life, and has in fact tripled my productivity, and I very excited to be able to share it with you. In February 2005, three PayPal employees launched the beta test version of a Web site called YouTube. They designed the site to let people share videos with the rest of the world. In November 2005, Sequoia Capital invested more than $3 million in the site, and a month later YouTube emerged as a fullfledged Web destination. It didnt take long for the site to become popular, and in November 2006, Internet search engine goliath Google purchased YouTube for $1.65 billion.

As the company has grown, so has the scope of the videos on the site. In the early days of YouTube, you could find videos showing interesting locations, crazy stunts and hilarious pranks. You can still find that sort of content today, but youll also see political debates, musical performances, instructional videos and unfiltered war footage. In 2007, YouTube even provided members with a way to interact with potential United States presidential candidates. YouTube members submitted video questions, and CNN featured some of them in Democratic and Republican candidate debates.

YouTube has also become the center of several controversies. YouTube doesnt prescreen videos before they appear on the site members upload thousands of videos every day. Sometimes, YouTube members will upload television shows or clips from movies to share with other people.

Another controversy is currently brewing in the YouTube community itself the battle between the online community and corporations. Lipid Digestion

Lipid Digestion

Most natural whole foods have inherent enzymes capable of completely or partially digesting lipids if the enzymes are not destroyed through heat and processing. This widely underestimated value of whole, raw, fresh foods has been by and large ignored.

A common argument against the value of inherent food enzymes is the presumed inhospitability of the gastrointestinal tract to all complex proteins. In other words, it is argued that enzymes within the food would simply be broken down into individual amino acids and would not have a chance to effect their enzymatic action which depends upon intact secondary and tertiary structure, the folding of protein chains.

There is considerable evidence, however, that enzymes as well as other macromolecules are able to survive the rigors of digestion. Examples include the ability of bacteria, salivary ptyalin, amylase and pollen to not only survive the digestive tract but be absorbed into the circulation.13 Another interesting example of the importance of natural food enzymes is the capability of bile activated lipase in milk to pass into the small intestine intact. This enzyme has thus far been identified in human, dog, cat and nonhuman primate raw mammary milk. If the enzyme is destroyed through pasteurization, growth has been shown to be cut in half compared to those receiving the enzyme in the whole, raw, natural product. 46

Although inherent food enzymes may be a virtue of raw natural foods since they can assist in the digestive process, they are often the enemy in processed foods. Lipase, for example, has the capability under the right conditions to begin hydrolyzing fatty acids from their glycerol backbone. However, this is undesirable in processed foods since once the fatty acids are split they may then more readily degrade and create various offflavors as well as potentially toxic oxidized molecules. Lipoxygenase found in some raw seeds can catalyze the oxidation of unsaturated fatty acids. Such nutrient degrading enzymes are inactivated by heat and germination a better way in processing methods. 7

Fresh from the vine fatty acids are still ensconced within protective cells and normally do not degrade unless separated from their natural context. Lipoxygenase in soybeans, for example, is activated as soon as the bean is split. Thus food enzymes are an enemy to the food processor who seeks shelf life, but a potential nutritional benefactor.

Food enzymes prepared from microbiological cultures can be used as supplements to replace enzymes lost during processing. These dried, or oil emulsified products, are activated only when hydrated in the digestive tract and can assist in the digestive process.8

Endogenous digestion proceeds through many steps. When a food is eaten, mastication helps separate the fats from the other components of the food. This permits digestion by enzyme systems which allow less than 5% of fats to pass undigested. Digestion can begin with the secretion of serous glands on the back of the tongue in some species, including humans, continue in the stomach through the action of gastric lipase, and be completed by pancreatic lipase excreted into the small intestine. As lipids enter the duodenum, various hormones such as secretin and cholecystokinin are stimulated. These hormones influence lipid digestion by affecting the pH of the intestinal contents, the release of pancreatic lipase, and the secretion of bile.

The increase in pH that occurs as the food bolus moves into the duodenum is necessary for the activity of pancreatic lipase. Secretion of bile salts from the liver emulsifies the products of lipolysis incorporating them into micelles which are complexes of bile salts, phospholipid molecules, and cholesterol. Fig. 11

Shorter chain fatty acids complexed with albumin are capable of being absorbed both in the stomach and in the small intestine. Longer chain triglycerides are disassembled in the small intestine by lipase, solubilized in micelles, and transported into mucosal cells enterocytes as free fatty acids. monoglycerides and small amounts of glycerol, diglycerides, cholesterol, and phospholipids. Once in the mucosal cell these components are reassembled into triglycerides, then complexed with protein, carbohydrate or phosphate and incorporated into chylomicrons which are a type of lipoprotein that permits transport of lipids within the watery medium of the blood. The inner core of the chylomicron is composed of nonpolar triglycerides and cholesterol esters, and the membrane is polar being made up of phospholipids, cholesterol, and proteins which permit solubility in blood. Fig. 12

Many more details of lipid digestion have been worked out quite intricately by researchers.914 It is interesting to note in this process that the principle of nothing working in isolation holds particularly true. The coordination of a variety of factors within the food itself and within the organism makes possible delivering lipids to the organism for energy and myriad metabolic processes.

Fats are not simply consumed and then passively absorbed through the walls of the intestine. Rather they are prepared by intricate emulsification systems, broken down in specific patterns by enzymes, absorbed by complex mechanisms, reassembled, and prepared for delivery to the body through complexing with a variety of other nutrients. These processes make it possible for nonwatersoluble lipid components to be delivered efficiently throughout organisms which are comprised primarily of water an incredible feat.

Lemony Shrimp Scampi Pasta Recipe

Lemony Shrimp Scampi Pasta Recipe

In a bowl, combine the garlic, zest and juice of 1 lemon, olive oil, red pepper flakes, salt and pepper, to taste, and the shrimp. Set aside to marinate.

Meanwhile make a quick shrimp stock: In a small pot, over medium heat, add the shrimp shells and onion. Cover with water and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat and simmer for 20 minutes. Strain into a bowl and discard the shells and the onion.

Bring a large pot of water to a boil over high heat and add a generous amount of salt. Add the linguini and cook until just tender, 2 minutes less than instructed on the package. Drain and reserve 1/2 cup of cooking water.

Heat a skillet over high heat. Remove the shrimp from the marinade, reserve the marinade, and add the shrimp to the skillet. Cook until they turn pink and start to caramelize, about 3 minutes. Remove the shrimp from the pan to a plate and add the reserved marinade. Let cook a few minutes then add about 1 cup of shrimp stock and about 1/2 cup pasta water. Continue to cook until sauce reduces by half. Add the zest and juice of the remaining lemon, the butter and the parsley and stir to combine. Adjust seasoning with salt and pepper, to taste. Add in the shrimp and pasta and toss to combine with the sauce. Turn out into a serving bowl and serve immediately.

This is absolutely the best shrimp scampi. I did add 2 more garlic cloves because we are garlic lovers. I also deglazed the pan with a little white wine. The depth of flavors is incredible. Even when it came time for leftovers, we couldn wait to eat it again. It a fun meal to make. I served it with a side of spinach sauteed in garlic and oil. Sooo good. I read a review where someone added spinach to the dish, and I try that next time. If you have the ingredients on hand, make this. You will not be disappointed.

Multiple Channels

Multiple Channels

But, to put the issue into context, this is another case of complex communication. In this case, a large volume of information thats not easy to understand.

Descriptions of benefits typically involve a high level of density: in other words, they contain a lot of information in a small amount of space. Many of them resemble insurance policies long on legal language and short on examples and anecdotes. As a result, the information is accessible to only a small proportion of the whole group.

How do you deal with this kind of communication challenge? Multiple channels, multiple times. That means repeating the message many times, and sending it through as many different channels as possible.

For example, when one of my clients changed its benefits package to offer more choices, it used this strategy. Collectively, the overall value of the benefits would work out the same for the company. But, individual employees would have to make choices, and in many cases the value of the individual benefits they received would depend on how wisely they made their decisions. In turn, that could lead to the equivalent of buyers remorse and complaints.

The company took a proactive approach to the changeover. It began planning well in advance of the switch, and its preparations included the equivalent of focus groups to identify concerns, questions, and problems.

Then, in the month or so before the changeover, it began communicating on several fronts. It held information sessions with employees, it sent each employee an information package, it sent out a special edition of its newsletter, it offered inhouse computer programs for calculations and enrollment, and it offered appointments with benefits personnel if employees felt they needed individual counseling.

Employees got the information in several formats, and at several different times, greatly increasing the odds that most of them would make informed decisions.

The odds that they would understand their choices went up because of different learning styles. And, needless to say, their ability to learn varies from time to time.

Some people learn best by reading and you may be one of them since youre reading this article. Others may learn more effectively by listening, while yet others do best when they act in some way like using a computer program.

Similarly, you may not be receptive to new information about a benefits program right now because youre focused on an important meeting later today. Or perhaps youll be more interested in the subject after you talk with a friend and colleague at lunch tomorrow.

By using multiple channels and multiple times, we provide our readers/listeners/participants with several different learning options. That, in turn, means we increase the odds there will be a time and method thats optimal for them.

Mexitil shortage causes concern for veterinarians

Mexitil shortage causes concern for veterinarians

Unless their dog has a heart condition most pet owners have probably never heard of the drug Mexitil mexiletine hydrocholride. This drug is an antiarrhythmic agent often prescribed for canines who have been diagnosed with irregular heartbeats ventricular arrhythmias. For those pet owners who do give their dog Mexitil, veterinarians have recently began noticing a potential problem as reports have started surfacing that Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals BI has stopped producing the drug. While for now a generic version is still currently being manufactured by Teva Pharmaceuticals USA, that supply appears to be dwindling as well. There has been no official word from these companies as to why production is stopping or slowing down, but the reason suspected is that there just isn much need for this type of drug anymore, at least not for human treatment anyway.Once popular for heart patients the use of mexiletine hydrocholride has decreased over time as implantable cardioverter defibrillators have gained favor over doctors prescribing oral medications. One primary reason for the discontinued use in humans is that these very drugs being used to treat irregular heartbeats were sometimes having a bad reputation for actually causing them. Better known as proarrhythmic, a possible side effect of the drug in which new arrhythmias would occur. While the use of implantable cardioverter defibrillators has become the new treatment of choice for humans, the high costs, technical issues and other factors involved have made the defibrillators less than an ideal treatment option for animals. For this reason Mexitil still remains the popular drug of choice for canines even as the need for the human drug dwindles. The question then becomes what should a pet owner do? The first step is to discuss the matter with your veterinarian to find out what other drug choices may be out there in the event this drug is discontinued. Stay informed and do research now about what other options there may be if needed. Together you and your veterinarian can evaluate potential setbacks before they occur and work out a plan now that ensures the continued safe treatment of your pet before any problems with possible shortages can occur.

Knitting with plastic bags

Knitting with plastic bags

The first bag I knit using plastic bags.

I bigtime into recycling. I hate wasting anything, especially when money is so tight these days. Here the ultimate in recycling plastic bags knitting with them! You can cut up a plastic grocery bag in a way that makes it one continuous ribbon of plastic. Some call it plarn plastic yarn.

The plarn makes a crinkly sound when you are knitting that reminds me of a baby walking in diapers! If you can get past the noise, it an imaginative way to reuse those plastic bags. You can still recycle the scraps because you do waste the handles and bottom seam when you cut up the bag.

After knitting with this for a while, I have discovered that the cheaper the bag, the easier it is to knit. I don recommend using the thicker plastic bags from department stores. It is too thick and difficult to work with. Plastic grocery bags are perfect for making plarn.

All of my friends love the bags I knit with plarn. I seen them sold on sites like Esty a site for handmade items.

I made my own pattern for kntting a tote bag with plastic bags because I hate sewing seams. I like to knit, not sew! See my article on knitting a tote bag.

The first bag I knit had directions to sew the seams with fishing line. Now there something that is something that is really difficult to work with! My knots kept coming untied no matter how many I put in the fishing line. A friend told me to put nail polish on the knots so they wouldn come undone. That was a nice idea. Honestly though, it took me a couple hours to sew up all of the seams.

Feel free to try any of the plarn patterns out there. It great fun. There are a lot of free patterns on line that I didn design and you won hurt my feelings if you knit one of those.

International Association Of Cape Horners

International Association Of Cape Horners

I had no knowledge of this fascinating organisation until my husband circumnavigated the world in the last Global Challenge RoundTheWorld Yacht Race of 2004/5. It is a very exclusive association. Only sailors who have rounded Cape Horn as part of a nonstop passage under sail of at least 3000 nautical miles are eligible and their course must have passed through latitude fifty degrees south in both the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans.

Cape Horn

The rounding of Cape Horn is sometimes referred to as the Mount Everest of sailing and it is believed that fewer people now qualify for full membership of the IACH than climb to the top of Everest. The Cape is located at 055 067 and is named after the city of Hoorn in the Netherlands, although English speaking sailors refer to it as The Horn. It is the southernmost headland of the Tierra Del Fuego archipelago of southern Chile and is located on the small island named Hornos in the Hermite Islands group. It marks the northern boundary of the Drake Passage, the strait between South America and Antarctica, which for many years was used on the clipper route by sailing ships trading around the world. These carried grain, wool and gold from Australia to Europe, traded between Europe and the Far East and travelled between the coasts of the United States via the Horn. The area, however, is a particularly hazardous one, due to strong winds and currents, large waves and even icebergs which are prevalent, making it notoriously dangerous for sailors. In 1914 the opening of the Panama Canal greatly reduced the need for vessels to round the Horn but by the late 1960s it had become one of the major challenges in yachting. Recreational sailors continue to use this route, often as part of a circumnavigation of the globe.

The climate in the area is generally cool with an average annual temperature of around 5.2 an annual rainfall of 1356.9mm, winds averaging 30 kilometres per hour and squalls of over 100 kilometres per hour. There is no dry season, just 278 days of rain and 70 days of snow. Wind conditions are generally severe, particularly in winter and even in summer months the wind can be gale force for up to 5% of the time with very poor visibility. If you compare it with other well known capes, Cape Agulhas on the southern tip of Africa is 35 and Stewart Island at the south tip of New Zealand is 47 In latitudes below 40 the prevailing winds blowing from west to east are almost uninterrupted by land, giving rise to the roaring forties, furious fifties and screaming sixties. Rounding the Horn requires yachts to sail through the path of these fierce winds which are further exacerbated at the Horn by the funnelling effect of the Andes and the Antarctic Peninsula which channel the winds into the Drake Passage.

The strong winds give rise to huge waves, attaining enormous size in the Southern Ocean, uninterrupted as they are by land. At the Horn they encounter an area of relatively shallow water to the south, which makes the waves shorter and steeper, increasing the danger for yachts. A further increase of height can be caused if an easterly wind encounters the strong eastward current through the Drake Passage and on top of this there is always the danger of frequent rogue waves which sometimes reach heights of 30 metres, about the height of a 10 story building. The winds and currents create particular problems for vessels attempting an east to west passage. It was particularly difficult for traditional sailing ships, which had problems making headway against the wind. Modern sailing boats are more efficient to windward and can reliably make a westward passage of the Horn, as competitors in the Global Challenge Race have proved.

Ice is always a potential hazard below 40 and icebergs are always a risk in the area especially in August.

The AICH

This was the precursor of the IACH, set up in 1936 by a group of French sailing ship Master Mariners. They had all commanded square rigged sailing ships round the Horn or had been members of the crew and had later attained command and their aims were to promote and strengthen the ties of comradeship which bonded these unique sailors and to recognise their skill and courage. They called their organisation the Amic

Because when you follow your heart on your journey towards your dreams, you take on an extra responsibility, not only for yourself but for the wider community.

People will see how you change and grow, and develop that spiritual side of yourself and will be directly affected by it they too have the potential to become more loving, open and peaceful people and they will learn from you.

Its a huge responsibility. But that is what it is to be a leader. It means you live by example; you set personal goals and standards, and mark your place in the universe and stand by it so that others can be inspired to do the same. And you always continue to raise your standards.

You might ask but how does a leader become a leader? Surely you have to learn how to develop and grow. Doesnt that make you a follower?

Thats right, it does. However, the value of being a follower in this quest to find your truth is in the added responsibility of showing to others how you take on the commitment to learning how to realise your dreams. Even if you are a follower, you can still lead by example. You can inspire others with your words and actions, and you can show others how to learn.

Exactly the same applies to a leader, because a leader never stops learning and is always a student in terms of their own development and discovery of truth.

Being a leader means that you understand the power that you have and you use it wisely. It means that others will find inspiration in your commitment to truth in both happy and adverse times.

You can be the candle flame in someones darkness so that they can find their way out again to the light. And you can show by your courage and strength of purpose that there is no need to be afraid; that everything in life is possible if you only live from your heart.

Installing Akismet was the best thing I ever did.

Akismet catches hardly any spam. Whats the use of Akismet then? you might ask. Well, the spammers know that I have Akismet and so dont bother me, in the main.

The few who do try me on can now easily be handled. Theyre mostly amateurs who use the same IP address each time, so I can easily block them.

Problem not entirely solved but well under control.

Interesting thing about Akismet. Its effect was instant. That is, I thought it wasnt working. After a week it had caught no spam. Initially, I installed Akismet on only one blog of about 15 in subdomains of the same domain. The spammers left my whole domain alone.

Ive been looking into Bad Behavior lately. Theres a great wordpress plugin, but Ive been wanting its protection on other CMS, including a few custom built sites.

Theyve just launched a new standalone version, it has a few bugs that Im working on ironing out, but I definitely think its worth moving on. Using htaccess, it includes itself within anything at all. The main problem is with already mod_rewritten URLs containing an extension in the request url. I had to alter the generated htaccess code to make it work.

It comes with an installer very basic but does the job and I managed to install it in less than 2 minutes.

Instead of using the request contents it looks at the way the request is made, blocking at source if its in anyway suspicious. From the bad behavior standalone site:

BadBehavior wrote:Many antispam solutions operate only by blocking IP addresses much like the police only trying to stop identified criminals. Bad Behavior seeks to recognize behaviors of spambots and other malicious bots, and stop them from accessing your site before they can do any harm. Like the police, it cant stop every criminal, but it can prevent a lot of them from accessing your site and wreaking havoc. It also logs IP addresses, so that it can recognize those behaviors more accurately. But it doesnt rely on that as the only means of stopping the bad guys.

3 days after installing the standalone on a custom site, traffic was down by 65% ish so instant panic, as you can imagine.

BUT, looking through the logs, that 65% ish drop was all spam bots. So its 65% ish less bandwidth, 65% ish server resources and 100% ish more reliable stats..

As the soprano begins to sing the role of an astonished shepherd, a wispy, pulsing phrase in the violins hangs delicately in the air, so quiet and ephemeral it could be the gentle flutter of an angel wings.Turns out, that is the image Georg Friedrich Handel had in mind in a section of his sacred oratorio Messiah depicting the nativity: And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them.Angel sightings are another thing, but if you have attended a performance of Messiah, participated in a singalong or listened to a recording you have heard them. But unlike those astounded shepherds, most of us have not realized this or the other descriptive writing in this masterpiece that premiered in Dublin in 1742. Handel created such compelling melodic and fluid music that it easy to overlook what is one of history great examples of word painting. The baroque era in music roughly 1600 to 1750 saw enormous interest in this technique of depicting a word meaning through music. A basic example is using dissonance to set the word pain.Handel was one of most skilled practitioners of onomatopoetic and pictorial composing. Throughout Messiah, he depicted physical acts such as throwing, abstract notions such as exulting or rejoicing and even moods, such as the triumphant splendor of the Hallelujah chorus.Even those who have sung Messiah aren always made fully aware of Handel continual crafting of music to express the words. Some of the meanings are debatable as Handel never specifically revealed them. But he and Charles Jennens, Handel librettist who recounted Christ birth and God promise of redemption, wanted the words to be understood clearly. Even though Messiah is in English taken from the King James Bible Handel word painting enhances their discernment. While some of Handel gamesmanship in the Messiah is sophisticated, most can be understood by anyone willing to listen a little closer.Take the first aria, or air, of the composition Every valley shall be exalted. Many a composer would be content with just composing a melody with half the beauty of Handel but he went much further. The text is: Every valley shall be exalted and every mountain and hill made low; the crooked straight and the rough places plain. When the tenor sings the word, crooked, Handel toggles between two notes; and with straight, he writes one long note. The effect wonderfully contrasts uneven with straight.Another common ploy in Messiah is Handel use of high notes for the word high and low notes for low. In the alto air Thou art gone up on high, Handel ends high on a note quite elevated in the alto register, lending clear emphasis to the word. That just the beginning. Here are just a few other examples out of a veritable feast of word painting for which you want to keep your ears pricked in the Messiah this season:All we like sheep have gone astray. Handel begins this movement with the chorus singing chords all together on the words, All we like sheep. But on the word astray, the sopranos, tenors, altos and basses wander away from each other almost aimlessly and in faster notes. Then later, on the phrase We have turned every one to his own way, the lines become even more independent, using counterpoint. The Lord gave the word opens with these words sung in unison by the men. But for the rest of the phrase, great was the company of the preachers, Handel expands the music to include the entire chorus singing faster notes and filledout chords. There were shepherds abiding in the field. For this recitative, or speechlike song, Handel wonderfully depicts the beating of the wings of angels who appear in the air above the quivering shepherds. That leads to .Glory to God, in which Handel juxtaposes Glory to God on high, lofty in pitch and light in timbre, sung by sopranos, altos and tenors, with and peace on Earth, sung low in pitch and by the men. The effect? Contrasting heaven and Earth better than the words alone do.But who may abide the day of his coming? contains one of the most dramatic moments in the entire oratorio. The text from Malachi prophesizes about Judgment Day, asking who may abide the day of his coming? This Handel crafts into a mysterious, slow air. But at the text, for he is like a refiner fire, the music explodes into . well . a fiery exclamation. The acceleration and ferociousness captures perfectly the threat of hell and damnation. The trumpet shall sound. The obvious solution here would be mimicking the trumpet, which Handel did with the bass singing a fanfare to open this air. But he went further by specifically writing a trumpet part to accompany the singer. And with His stripes. Handel uses a staggered entrance of Renaissance counterpoint to have each of the chorus sections state this text prominently. The impression is of the falling of lash after lash on the back of Christ during the Passion. To depict the pain of the floggings, Handel composes a dissonant jump from a high note to a low one.The people that walked in darkness. This air for bass is a prime example of chiaroscuro in music. It begins with the bass singing in a walking gait that descends until he hits a low note on the word darkness. When the text turns to have seen a great light, not only does the line rise in pitch, it gets brighter in orchestration. A sustained note on light completes the picture.Let us break their bonds asunder. To portray this text for the chorus, Handel writes a very disjunct and jumping line marked staccato, or detached. It sounds very much like something is being broken. Later, for the words and cast away their yokes from us, the music is flung by the singers singing of rapid and spiraling notes. So there is much more than meets the ear in Handel Messiah.Whether you are looking forward to a Messiah performance this Advent or you dread it, you might enjoy it more if you try to decipher Handel ingenious musical depictions.

I lost my job! I been working for almost 20 years and now it seems like I am too old for anyone to hire me. Actually, it looks like there are not too many places that are hiring ANYBODY these days. Well, I did find this one system for making money online. I certainly not making as much as I was at my job but it better than nothing. I only been doing it for a few months though, and I am at least making half of what I was making at my job. Plus, I get to write my own work schedule! Anyway, if you wanty to check it out, here is the sales pitch for the program that I am using: What if there was a system that you could use in the comfort of your own home and make more money than you ever could in your job using just your computer and the internet? Online advertising has skyrocketed over the past few years. In 2010, companies spent close to $50 billion advertising online. That figure is expected to increase substantially. What does this mean for you? Money could be going into your bank account a lot faster in the next few years. You see, companies worldwide are desperately searching for people just like you to type up their ads and post them online, and they pay you nicely in return. It a winwin situation. They get more customers, you get paid. It as simple as that. These companies have cash, LOTS of it, and they eager to share it with you. It time for you to get a piece of the pie.
